Why the Westside is the Best Side: Take a Taste of Old Colorado City

On Sunday, September 22, the Old Colorado City Foundation (OCCF) reminds those of us who like to eat up and drink in all the good things in Colorado Springs, of the gastronomic depth and infectious community that flows along Colorado Avenue. At a Taste of OCC, 22 local restaurants, breweries, distilleries and art vendors gather together from noon until 4 p.m. in Bancroft Park, with live music from Woodshed Red, to showcase the diversity and passion that this distinct neighborhood brings to local cuisine.

This annual event benefits OCCF, a nonprofit foundation founded in 2013, with the mission to promote, preserve and enhance the integrity of the Old Colorado City Historic District. Through the beautification, improvement, and economic development of the area, OCCF strives to cultivate an identity for OCC as a revered dining, shopping and artfully inclined destination.

“Taste of OCC is our premier opportunity to raise funds to make improvements to Old Colorado City,” says Dave Brackett, OCCF president. “We have used funds from past events to facilitate the improvements to Bancroft Park that are currently underway. The final product will include new picnic tables, benches, a childrens’ reading and learning area for the OCC Carnegie Library as well as Historical Society events.”

Ear food plays on in the park.
“An upbeat positive grassy sound, intertwined with funky, untamed improvisation.”
