“Ooh That Smell” at the 26th Annual Pueblo Chile & Frijoles Festival

It’s probably safe to say that we are a tad obsessed with that good good slow burn from green chiles and luckily, we have the opportunity to fulfill our constant cravings in nearby Pueblo, Colorado. This past weekend we got right to it, digging into 15 bowls of red and green chile, as well as some salsa, serving as a judge at the 26th annual Chile & Frijoles Festival on Saturday, September 26.

Our RMFR crew spent the morning tallying up the professional entries on the competition side before strolling through this year’s somewhat abbreviated festival, due to COVID restrictions, with our friends from The Modern Eater.

Peek at our video segment here as we chat with Donielle Kitzman, Vice President of Visit Pueblo and Convention & Visitors Bureau, and take in the delightfully enticing fragrance of green chiles just “roasting away.” Kitzman shares her take on the laborious process, a bit of Pueblo history and some insight on the family-run farms that make this celebration so very special for Colorado residents.

There is nothing quite like the heavenly scent of some fiery greenery.
