As we posted earlier, Cloud 9 and Wheeler farms hosted the Slow Food Pikes Peak group for a day of tours and feasting. That group really knows how to throw a potluck — emphasizing its one of the few slow-food groups that actually eats when it meets — with the final meal at Wheeler including mead, Middle Eastern dishes, artichokes, bundt cakes, pastries, and the incredible deliciousness of Wheeler’s pork, turkey and raw goat’s milk.

See below for more photos from the event, held last Sunday, and here’s more about the two farms, who have CSA spaces available, and food group:

About Wheeler: “We believe that chickens were born to forage and pigs are meant to root.  Our animals are not confined in buildings, they have adequate shelter for protection from bad weather and prey and they get to enjoy the outdoors every day.”

About Cloud 9: “All of our animals are raised on pasture or free ranged. We use soy-free, non-GMO feeds, never administer hormones, and only use antibiotics as a last resort to save a life. We practice low-stress livestock handling and believe happy, healthy, loved animals make tasty, healthy, nutrient dense food.”

About Slow Food: “Slow Food Colorado Springs is the local non-profit voice for good, clean, and fair food in the Pikes Peak Region. As the local chapter of Slow Food USA, we advocate for local food production by local farmers/ranchers.”
