Tired of Twix? Opt for something outside the box and treat yourself on Halloween. Monday, October 31, Great Storm Brewing will host a truffle and beer pairing for $10, from 1-9 p.m. in which they’ll serve four sample-size pours of their Halloween beer releases coupled with complimentary chocolates, available until they’re gone. The fancy confections are provided by local legacy sweets shop, Patsy’s Candies.
Think combining these two commodities is a trick? Cocoa nibs are often used in brewing and chocolate malts can add slight bitterness and depth to a stout or porter. Don’t skimp on bringing your beer towards the dessert cart and try enjoying these fermented foods together.
We spoke with Great Storm about the pairings, and got a sneak peek about what you can expect.
• Pompion Ale, a pumpkin beer, inspired by Benjamin Franklin‘s recipe, containing nearly 100 pounds of pumpkins, suits a white chocolate champagne truffle.
• Big Jim, a mildly spicy amber chili beer encourages sweet and sour notes with a white chocolate key lime truffle.
• Mint Chocolate Chip Stout, a thin mint cookie served in a glass, on nitro, with a dark chocolate mint truffle.
• Red Oktober, a mashup between an Irish Red and a traditional German Oktoberfest with a white caramel truffle.
