The Colorado Springs Bartenders’ Guild launches Serving the Springs: A Food & Supply Drive effective April 22, which occurrs every Wednesday and Saturday, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at 125 N. Spruce Street.
Serving the Springs is an initiative born out of necessity during these unprecedented times, constructed of and led by service industry professionals, that provides meal kits, food and other essential items to other hospitality workers in need.
“We decided the best thing that we could do is make sure that none of our own are left hungry,” says Emillio Ortiz, co-owner of 503W. “It is our hope that relieving some of the day-to-day expenses of life, in this case, food & other supplies, will allow us all to save a little money for other expenses which may not be negotiable.”
Serving the Springs asks for donations of any food items and other personal necessities to include:
- Toiletries (soap, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, toothpaste, contact solution, feminine hygiene products, etc.)
- Pet supplies (pet food, litter, etc.)
- Kitchen supplies (trash bags, dish soap, paper towels, etc.)
- Household cleaning supplies
- Bandanas/ face masks
- Baby supplies (baby bottles, formula, baby food, diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream)
- Fresh produce with 7-10 day expiration dates (potatoes, onions, apples, squash, frozen items, etc.)
- Canned food items
- Dry goods / non-perishable items
- Misc. food items (coffee, tea, etc.)

“As an industry, we are known for our hospitality, greeting guests with a warm smile, and being a light of positivity for our patrons,” says Ortiz. “Since we currently have no bars and restaurants to work in, let us continue to be a force of positivity in the community for our neighbors and especially for each other.”
