Last night, restaurateur Joe Campana joined a rare breed of restaurant owners in Colorado Springs when his third restaurant, Bonny and Read, soft-opened to a crowd of friends and devotees.
This places Campana, who also owns The Rabbit Hole and SuperNova, squarely in the ranks of locals like Joseph Coleman (The Blue Star, Nosh, La’au’s), Randy Price (Over Easy, Sonterra, Salsa Brava) and Concept Restaurants (McKenzie’s Chop House, Jose Muldoon’s, The Ritz) as big players in the food scene.
Bonny and Read, located downtown in an old deli, looks nothing like it did when we visited a few months ago. A blank space has been replaced with a warm, hip vibe full of blues and blacks and lots of seafood.
“To see the finished product and the people in here, it’s just amazing,” Campana tells the Report. “It’s one of the best feelings. And the stress level is just completely gone at this point. … This is exciting. We’re hoping this will be a good thing for downtown.”
