Rhein Haus, a German eatery and beer garden located in downtown Denver, has an import from their sister restaurant, Poquitos in Seattle, Washington. Chapulines– toasted grasshoppers in a chili-lime salt, is a year-round, Oaxacan delicacy that the establishment serves. Safeco Field, home to the Seattle Mariners, recently introduced them as an alternative to classic ballpark fare. The stadium has sold more of the bizarre food since its debut in April than Poquitos does in a year. Media coverage has been rampant on ESPN, Washington Post, Forbes, and USA Today, amongst others.
May 26 through June 2, while the Colorado Rockies play the Pacific Northwest team, at home and away, Rein Haus will offer a twist on the unconventional grub. They will serve up a ballpark brat–a habanero cheddarwurst topped with avocado creme, pico de gallo, sour cream and chapulines while supplies last for $14.
