On Friday, October 20 from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Dancing Pines Distillery in Breckenridge, Colorado, hosts an amateur cocktail throw-down with 100 percent of the proceeds to benefit the feature-length documentary, “The Whiskey Film”. Set to release on Amazon and Netflix in 2018, the story surrounds individuals who define craft whiskey across the U.S. with cameos from Distillery 291 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Deerhammer Distilling Company in Buena Vista, Colorado, and Colorado Malting Company from Alamosa, Colorado.
“The Whiskey Film tells the story of modern whiskey distillers through the lens of education, history, entrepreneurship, creativity and most importantly agriculture,” says Thomas Kolicko, documentary film-maker and founder of Traverse Image. “Agriculture is a hugely important part of the film.”
The event invites participants, 21 years and up, to compete against 24 other cocktail enthusiasts. Registration costs $79 and includes event entry, all necessary supplies, refreshments, live music and a chance to meet Kolicko, the man behind the movies.
“By doing these local events it allows us to partner with these distilleries,” says Kolicko. “We wanted to do a really interesting grassroots event and Dancing Pines came up with the idea for the contest. This is a fun opportunity for anyone who kind of dabbles in whiskey to make delicious cocktails and earn bragging rights.”
Winners will present their concoction to a panel of judges, to include Kolicko, to vie for a top three spot which awards swag from Dancing Pines Distillery, like select bottles of whiskey, and tickets to a screening of “The Whiskey Film”.
“We asked, how do we get into the communities and how do we work with as many craft distilleries as possible,” says Kolicko. “How can we continue to spread the eduction about what whiskey is and how we can enjoy it together.”
