The Blue Star has come a long way. Since opening on Aug. 7, 1995 in Old Colorado City, restaurateur Joseph Coleman’s flagship moved to South Tejon Street, set the dominant tone in dining room design, and helped lead the wine and cocktail development in this city.  (If you include Coleman’s Principal’s Office at Ivywild, in partnership with former bartender Nate Windham and others, no business owner has done more to advance alcoholic drinks in this town.)

As a result, accolades have poured in, with the Blue Star annually taking “best overall restaurant” in “best of” polls by the Indy and Gazette.

“The Blue Star was founded on a vision of ‘California cuisine’ with a focus on locally sourced foods, as well as drawing inspiration from the Pacific Rim,” reads a press release. “This vision still rings true with a focus on New American cuisine with Mediterranean and Pacific Rim influences …”

Now comes the celebration of its 20th anniversary, which includes special offers Coleman is running throughout September “as a thank you to our incredible customers.”

  • Tuesdays: Buy one entrée in the lounge and get one entrée half-off.
  • Wednesdays: The first 20 tables receive a free Blue Star cookbook.
  • Thursdays: Throwback to customer favorites, like the Spicy Asian Noodle Bowl (pictured) and Almond Rosemary Crusted Salmon. (Lounge only.)
  • Saturdays: 20 percent off the restaurant’s “reserved wine” collection.

Throwback Thursday is tonight. A Facebook event says special entrées are available at lunch or dinner.
