This summer in Colorado sure has been a warm one, but as the end grows near it leans right into that much anticipated time of year, and we’re not referring to the holidays… It’s peach season baby!
This long awaited stone fruit is popping up everywhere and there is simply nothing better than the sticky joy everyone seems to derive from this plump, cheeky produce. Colorado peaches are revered for being extra juicy and extra sweet and this year’s cool start to summer and plentiful moisture means an even more robust crop.
According to an article published by FoodSmart Colorado (Colorado State University Extension), “There are more than 2,400 acres of peach orchards in Colorado, which places the Centennial State sixth in the United States for peach production. Prime growing locations in Colorado include: Mesa, Delta, Montrose and Montezuma counties. Peaches alone account for 75% of all fruit production in the state of Colorado and are celebrated for their nutritional value, serving as a great source of vitamin C, fiber and potassium, while still being low in calories.”
One of our favorite things about this bodacious fruit is its undeniable versatility in the kitchen, and outside on the grill too. Whether you’re craving something savory, dessert-like or choosing to use peaches as an accoutrement, there’s really no limit when it comes to incorporating them into your at-home menu.
